A good mistake...

This was not the post I planned for the Wild Onion. That post is on my blog. How it got there, I have no idea, but it's there, so I'm here.
I've been meaning to write this one for some time. You know how I love quotes, well I also love day books. These are from Simple Abundance ~ A Daybook of Comfort and Joy written by Sarah Ban Breathnach. I just adore it because most of the time it makes me laugh. I love it so much I bought two. One for me and one for my sister. I wish I could afford to buy it for everyone I love because it's worth it!

Ahhhhhhhhhh...our furry little friends.

I love anyone who understands and artist.
My dad once said, "Creativity is in all of us, if we just make the time." I believe that.
God, you all know how I love Edith Wharton!!!!! Oh, and also my hair. ;)

I don't wear makeup. Thank God. Dr. P said yesterday, "Well this is going to be easy (as she cut into my skull), no makeup. Oh, and by the way, you have beautiful skin." I love that woman!
I adore this quote. It always reminds me of home and family.
~
That's it folks. Hope you enjoy, learn, smile and think. I have a precious little book of days from the late 1800's I bought on eBay. I'll share some of it with you in the coming months because it's absolutely darling. I try not to open it too much for fear it will fall apart!
XO

Holy cow, Suzanne! I don't know what to make of you, truly I don't. Oh wait..

Blottie #1!

I am up waaaay too late (or is it early?) and the rain is still falling and I am looking at my b-e-a-yoooutiful new washrags that Leah sent me that I don't even want to use they are so bright and lovely...

and I'm rambling.

Great stuff. Excepting as always, the hair. I hate my damned hair...

No darling, Blottie #2, Megan #1. And no, you're not up too late, I am. It's almost time to wake up!!! This is just nutty!

No, you're not "rambling." Why do people always think they're "rambling." You're telling a story. Stories are important, so just embrace your storyteller self!!!

You won a contest at Leah's? Okay, that's it. I'm pissed. Everyone's winning stuff but me. I suppose I should participate. Okay, it's official. I'm in.

Here's my suggestion. Anything can be art. Go to Target and buy a few nice black frames and mount the washrags as art. I'm serious.

What kind of hair do you have. we have two expert hairdressers: Karen and Gig. They are always open for a consult.

Love you darling and Happy Saturday.

Love you too, dear.

My hair is thin and abundant and dry and turning white and...I don't really want to talk about it...

I better go to bed. I have to go to dinner at my folks tomorrow with all my uncles in attendance. I was supposed to go visit my favorite uncle this weekend, and instead he came here (which turns out to be a good thing for me because the roads are closed and he doesn't have to go back until Tuesday) but seeing him just by myself is so way different than when I see him with the whole clan in attendance.

He's MY godfather and why do they call get to share?

Oh, wait, because he's their uncle, too.

all instead of call

Wow...looking at your photo I thought it was black!!!

I'm mostly all white, thin and have alot. You're in good company. What do you think? Should we have it layered? Let's ask our experts. I need to have mine styled. I'm sick of just chopping it off myself!!!

Dinner with the relatives. Did you mean "today." Honey, trust me, it's today, it's just been a long morning! It's time for me to get up. That is just absolutely pathetic! I'm exhausted and now I have to start my exhauting day. What's wrong with this picture?

What do you mean the "roads are closed?" I haven't had time to watch news. Do you have flooding? Where?

Love you XO

Grapevine will probably be closed tonight.

Today.

Hi ladies!

As for hair, mine was completely intractable until my friend took me to her brilliant haircutter. I'm now a true believer. I've got what we Hebrews lovingly refer to as "Jewfro." But my hair lady fixed it so that I don't cry when I look in the mirror on a rainy day. I don't even have to mess around with product--since I'm a wash-and-go sort of girl.

Also, our mutual girlfriend Karen (hi Karen!) introduced me to these fabulous haircare products, SilkySexy. I ordered the shampoo and conditioner, and my hair is so soft it's incredible. If anyone decides to try them, Karen recommends doing a shampoo every so often with a "clarifying" product to get rid of build-up.

Seriously, try this stuff! I usually buy my products at our local natural foods store, but this works much much much better.

How do you like how I took this post down from the sublime to the ridiculous.

And Megan, I am so so glad you find those washrags cheery!

Oh wait, what am I talking about--you were already talking about hair when I stepped in, so it's okay--

Oh and Suzy, I love some of those quotes--all of them really--but especially the Robert Frost and the T.S. Eliot. Great post.

Megan, is it's snowing up there? Wow. Well, the sun's shining here today but more rain is expected tonight or tomorrow, so I can't sit here long (yard work). I'm just trying to get the kitties to sleep as usual so I can do my favorite thing in the whole world first...HOUSEWORK! Only Baby and Bella are still standing and somehow they managed to get into the closet with my colored pencils. Bella came running into my office with a small one sticking out of her mouth like she was smoking a cigar! "Give me that thing you little rat, and stay out of Mommy's stuff!" I'm going to have to put childproof locks on everything because those two are just T-R-O-U-B-L-E!

Not much time left now. Bella's falling asleep next to me and Baby's in the window seat with very heavy eyelids. Gotta go!

Happy Saturday!

Leah,

I only have a few minutes, but I'll come back later. The "Jewfro" killed me. I'm still laughing. I'm actually going to talk to Karen about style and hair care products. Is SexySilky only available through mail order?

I haven't had a good cut since moving from LA. I used to go to the expensive hair salons in Beverly Hills until I went to Jose Eber and had him (yes, him) cut my hair and had his colorist correct some highlights I'd had at another very, very expensive salon a week prior!!! When it was over I was told the stylist would blow dry my hair for around $80 plus a tip. I told him I didn't want it styled, just blow dried so I could walk to the car without wet hair. I was informed "Well, we don't do that here, you have to have it styled or blow it dry yourself." MYSELF!!!!!! ARE YOU F&^#%$G NUTS! I GAVE THEM OVER $350, PLUS TIPS AND I HAD TO BLOW DRY MY OWN HAIR!!!! I refused to pay close to $500 for their services (this was back in 1990, so you know it's a hell of a lot more now). That salon is without a doubt the biggest scam!!! I've never had someone professionally cut my hair since. I'd rather go to the corner barber for a trim!

Honey, how much do you pay for a haircut? I've been out of the loop so long I don't know what's reasonable!

Okay, all the kitties are sleeping so I gotta scram. Hope you're having a great Saturday. And thanks for everything Leah. You're a sweetie.

Oh, one more thing. Kylie wrote a kick-ass post. I read it in the wee hours of morn and cried my eyes out. It should be in a magazine. You might have trouble with it, but I hope you read it. It's very moving.

Love you! Glad you like the quotes. Will you be my editor!!!????

XO ;)

Suze--I just paid around 200$ for a really super good haircut and color, but that included a huge tip. Actually, for NYC that's not bad. The haircut alone cost me 70 bucks (but again, I tip HUGELY on top of that) the last time I went.

My haircutter really is superb. She's Japanese, from Japan relatively recently, but for some reason can really deal with curly frizzies. She's the first hairstylist EVER who didn't try to iron my hair straight--that drives me nuts, because as soon as I wash it, it's back to its former "glory." Seiko works with the curl, rather than trying to suppress it. My sis goes to her now too, and she's got almost waist-length long curls.

Well, since we are talking about hair, mine is georgous. Yes, I'm laughing. Because I know all of you are laughing. It is mostly curly or wavey, but straight as a board on top. I is extremely thick and heavy so it weighs it down on top making it straight. If I cut it short once it grows out to be about two or three inches long it wings out around my ears. Right now I am at a transitional length. It is finally long and heavy enough that it doesn't wing around my ears, but it lays flat in the front around my eyes and I hate it. I never wear hair products like hair spray or gel. I don't blow dry it. I rearly curl it, because it is already curly. I just get out of the shower, towel dry it, comb it, and go. The new picture of me on my blog is my wind blown look. Go check it out and tell me what you think. A photo of my sexy husband is there too. So I have eye candy on my blog. Oh and for you guys that want some eye candy, well there are some sweet photos of antique cars if I'm not eye candy enough for ya. So go check it out because it took me almost two hours to write, so if I don't get anymore than two comments on this one, I'm never coming back again. Seriously.

I LOVE this post!!! What a unique and creative idea!!! I love this post. I love the hair quote, of course. LOL

I love all the comments too. Silky sexy is a great shampoo for anyone who has curly hair that tends to frizz in the humidity. It also smells incredibly yummy.

I like Alterna's caviar anti-aging shampoo and conditioner, but it is very expensive, over $30 a bottle, and the bottles are small. Then again, you only need a squirt of shampoo the size of a pea, and add water to make it lather. Great stuff.

I ALSO love Pureology, as it is 100% vegan, which I know Suzanne will love. It has no sulfites in it, so it won't fade your hair. At all. I use that one too. It too is expensive, but ladies, we are worth it. Our hair is worth it.

Suzanne, I CANNOT beleive that you went to a shop that would do a color on you and not blow dry your hair afterward. That is the most unprofessional thing I"ve ever heard of. I have some clients who do not want thier hair blow dried after, but they are rare, I have to fight with them to do it because I want to see how their color turned out!!!You have to SEE the color, and make sure it is the right shade, and you CANNOT tell what color it will be when it's wet!!! They have a lot of #$%&*^ nerve charging that much for services and not blow drying your hair. UGH. I'm in the wrong part of the globe, dammit. I'm starving down here!

I get $35-$40 for a ladies cut, $23 for a men's cut, $70 for a partial highlight, $110 for a full highlight (one color) and $55 for a root touch up, solid color. Good lord.

I wish I were booked all day long, it sucks to sit around and do nothing.

I wish I lived close enough to you, Karen. I can't find a good stylist for a reasonable amount anywhere near here.

Well, L.A., you know. Everyone seems to think that if they have ridiculous prices, normal people will think that they 'do' for the stars or something...

Gig said...

Karen
You don't even want to know what the prices are here in Northern MI!!
When I moved here, I had to go backwards, ugh.
Last Thursday was really bad...but Friday was great. This week I am working 3 days, hopefully busy ones.
Suzanne deals with allergies...Purology being Vegan might be good for her? I suggested she consult with you too on her hair.
I will check your blog to see if your email is available, if not will you email me?

Ok, I am going to try to go to sleep now, I just keep getting distracted...

Gig, (Debbie)

Karen ^..^ said...

Gig, I do have my email posted.

Allergies, huh? Hmmm... The pureology might be good for that, as I've never heard anyone mention that it would make them itch...

I steer clear of anything that professes to be "hypoallergenic" though, because it sends a red flag up every time, and almost always breaks out people who are sensitive.

I've noticed that Acquage products tend to be more allergy inducing than any other.

Suzanne, what kind of hair do you have? You mentioned thin, but a lot of it, right? So it is fine in texture, but plentiful?

You can use the "big sexy" hair, which is by the same company as the silky sexy I recommended to Leah. But definitely condition. That way you aren't pulling it and stretching it, and can maintain a shine.

Thats all for now! Gig, you can find my email address on my profile page.

I'm cracking up. I'm on this damn thing looking for the quiche recipe I've maybe 200-300 times and still can't remember the egg to half & half/milk ratio. That IS JUST PATHETIC!!! AND I'm looking for a good peach cobbler recipe because the peach tart I'm making failed. The dough had a bit of freezer burn and everytime I tried to cut and past (aka patch) the round got smaller, and smaller and smaller until I was left with a mini-tart. I have too many peaches for a mini-tart, so I've decided to go at the dough from the top rather than the bottom. I'm supposed to be on the Food Network or somwhere, but instead typed in blogger.com out of habit and ended up here. I'm not supposed to be here and you all know that. So get the hell out of Blottie's way and help me find the exit! *Sits on Macy's sofa briefly, leans back and looks at disco ball, remembers the good old days, asks Jorge for a drink. "Get it yourself you lazy b&$%&."* Ahhhhhhh, the good old days.*

Yes I'll be back to say hello to all and talk hair, but Karen, just so you know, fine and quite a bit of it. My allergies have nothing to do with itching, but eyes. My eyes have always been very, very sensitive and so is my skin. I don't wear ANY makeup and use only mineral oil as a moisturizer (God do I have a funny story about mineral oil and a Target clerk!). I seem to be very allergic to some scents and chemicals. Let me know what you think.

I gotta go, the oven's on and everything's waiting. I don't even have time to read my own blog, but will try in a day or so. I love you all and MISS YOU!!! Hope you're all well.

XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO ;)!
