Thanks Bob for Reminding Me of this Happiest of Days!

I love Homer but I love donuts even more. Perhaps the most cheerful invention we've come up with, with cupcakes running a close second.

Bob posted about donuts over at JustBobness, and I thought since it's National Donut Day it wouldn't hurt to have two donut posts up. Hope that's okay Bob, but there's really nothing that makes me smile much more than a donut. I believe donuts are life-affirming, little testaments to hope in the universe...

I have brought along a couple of dozen Dunkin Donuts for those of us who like dense cake donuts, and Krispy Kremes (magically, they will never be cold) for those who prefer the lighter kind. Or both for those who like me are not fussy. And will someone from the West Coast bring a dozen Winchell's so I can perform a taste test?

Before I go, I just wanted to say that I found this explanation of National Donut Day:

"National donut day is always the first Friday in June and was originally started during World War 1.

The day is spent commemorating Salvation Army volunteers who braved the front lines in order to provide home cooked foods as a morale boost to soldiers. The donuts made in those days were often times cooked inside of the metal helmets of American soldiers.

Due to their fondness of the fried dough, American infantryman were often called 'Doughboys.'"

Do you think there could be any truth to this? Besides WWI soldiers being called "doughboys" of course---we know that much is true.

Happy Donut Day!

The more donuts the better! I'm not much of a sweets person, easily able to pass up cakes, pies, candy, etc... but not donuts. They are my ultimate guilty pleasure.

Crullers for everyone!!!

YAY DONUTS!!!

We didn't have any this morning, but I convinced my boss to buy some on his way in on Monday, so at least it won't be as horrible as usual!

I'll admit, I haven't had a donut in about 10-15 years. Okay, maybe 20, but I LOVE DONUTS!!! I just respect my health more!!!

Okay, so here's what I love about them. Basically everything. I love the dense ones, but the dense ones with the white powdered sugar. And I love eating them with a hot cup of coffee or tea. Oh, almost forgot, hot chocolate ain't bad either! I'm not too fond of the dense cinnamon donut. Always seemed rather harsh to me. I also love the light fluffy ones. Yup chocolate covered followed by jelly filled. Hummmmmmm, I'm now thinking jelly filled followed by chocolate filled. Hummmmmmm, it's almost a tie. Okay, if I was being waterboarded I'd scream "JELLY FILLED." (About a dozen please.)

It funny because I made the worst coffee in the whole world this morning. I took the first sip and thought, "What the hell?" Drank a few more sips and gave up (you all know I love lots of milk in my coffee!). Fed the ferals, stopped at Target and bought, for the first time ever, Dunkin' Donuts coffee. Swear to God! Stop at the market and bought some milk because I was low. Arrived home and made a cup of coffee instantly. Looked at the old milk and the expiration was June 2! WHAT!!??? Opened it and it was sour. Oh. My. God. Tried to drink coffee with sour milk this morning and yesterday and probably the day before. No wonder I was nearly sickened by the taste of my coffee the past few days. So apparently it wasn't my coffee, it was me! Dunkin' Donuts coffee is good (but a wee expensive). I like it. I'll use the whole bag. Oh, an I'll keep an eye on the milk from now on.

In honor of all of you I will buy a donut tomorrow. I may have to buy two: one dense, one light and fluffy.

Yay donuts!!!

XO

P.S. Hi everyone!
