Join me on a little road trip to my favorite apple orchard in the Adirondacks of NY State, one of the last weekends to go before the frosts set in. Don't forget your down jackets, earmuffs, and mittens! For those of you transplanted East-Coasters missing the colors of Autumn, we'll take the long way to admire the foliage:
After a few hours of singing "99 bottles of beer" and taking in the beauty, and snacking on cheese sandwiches, we'll arrive at Hicks:
where we'll pick a bushel or two of Macouns
When we've picked our fill, and our noses are red with cold, we'll go on over to the farmhouse and sample the
and the
and return home, to start over again on a new day, this time happy and full of cider donuts and apple wine and fresh air!

The leaves changing are beautiful. They haven't quite started to change here in the mid South. I've had a busy day today decorating our house for Halloween, and carving pumpkins. We have 5 pumpkins, but since it takes me over three hours to carve one, I have only finished two. The first one I did is a haunted house on a hill with bats flying around it. The second one is of three wolves howling at the full moon. It's a lot of work, but I really enjoy doing it, it is almost as mind relaxing as painting.
That sounds wonderful. Will you take pictures for us?
Of course, once I get my brain wrapped around the happending of this weekend, I'm going to blog about it. It has been a busy one for me!
That should have read "happenings" of this weekend. I think it may have been too much for me! :P
The pictures are awesome...
Hot Cider and donuts, yum, such a wonderful part of Autumn. Plus the Cider Wine looks very tempting.
Thanks for taking us along on your trip!!
Am leaving Friday for a quick visit to upstate New York. I'll have to stop at an orchard along the way and pick up a few of the nice things that you've shown.
Thanks for the suggestion,
Skeeter
Hi Gig, cider donuts are practically my favorite thing in the world--especially fresh and hot. Hicks keeps their hand-cranked donut machine going through October, and you can have an amazing donut with a cup of hot coffee or tea, eaten outside in the chilly sun, it's an amazing treat...
Skeeter! upstate NY? Hope you post about it.
That was an awesome reminder of the years I spent up in New England. Thanks for sharing your weekend with all of us!
just bob
PICTURES ARE GREAT!!!!!!
One of the many things I miss about living up north is the changing of the leaves. That and the sweet, soft grass. Our grass sucks down here; it's rough, course, and cuts the flesh as if you were being executed through Lingchi.
Wait for me! I know. I know. I'm late, as usual.
Thanks Leah for this lovely trip, and thanks to Cece for taking photos!
