Ceilidh
I think we need to raise the roof on this motherf!@#ker a little bit, it's just that kind of a day. So join me if you will for a hoedown featuring my favorite kind of Irish music--I'm throwing a Ceilidh--which I can do because after all not only am I part-Irish (hey, whadya want, my daddy was a rambling man), but I'm also a red-head, as you know now, through and through.
Now, just like we do at our Brooklyn home hootenanies, everyone needs to choose an instrument. I claim the fiddle, because after all that's my thing,
but the rest are up for grabs:
someone can borrow my superfly vintage Gibson mandolin--it's coming up on its 95th birthday--just don't bang it around too much in your drunkenness:
The humble pennywhistle:
and the all-important concertina:
the Irish flute:
tenor banjo:
and feel free to grab a set of Irish spoons or bones!
Grab your sheet music and a pint
and let's go!
p.s. anyone who's tired can just put their feet up, get drunk, and clap along.

Sláinte!
Hey Bob, can ye pour me a black and tan?
Hey QG! Nice to see you...I'm about to pick up my fiddle, but first I'll join you and IV in a drink.
Well, I didn't know what a ceilidh was...first I thought Leah had a typo...but, I can party with ya'll like a drunken monkey.
*does worst impression ever of "Lord of the Dance" then falls on ass*
picks RC up off the floor and buys her a drink
Man.....you looked HOT doing that Flipper the Dolphin Dance!
Oh good lord I'm Irish at heart even though I'm English and French. Rob's Irish. Do you have a piano? I can fake it!!! I don't drink beer, but will fake that too. Pour me a pint. Is that too much for a half-pint? God I feel really, really happy after this very long day. Love you...you...you gorgeous red-head you. So, the thunder down under is also red? Wow. ;) What a lucky hubby!!!
XO
P.S. Of course I'm laughing. And thanks for all your love and support. Couldn't do it without you.
...black and tans on the bar for everyone
It's about damn time we got some live music in this place. Can we book The Dropkick Murphys next?
Wow, Dropkick Murphys almost sound like something Cece would play on her blog!!! IV and Cece...a match made in Heaven.
You forgot the bodhran, but that's okay, I brung it...
Slainte!
Jeez, I just read the comments more carefully and QG totally got here before me.
That's as it should be, though.
I'll just put the coffee on for to make 'God's Blessings' then?
Morning has started for me. I need a good cup of coffee because I've been up all night. Again. Good God. It feels like "Groundhog Day."
Wow, great comments. We sure do have a lively crowd. Bob, you servin' breakfast? I'm in need honey.
XO
Megan, read more carefully. Thanks for the cofee.
Also, "thanks for the coffee."
Good morning Suzanne! I think I'll take my oatmeal today served on my bodhran...since I've got no rhythm this morning...
Suze, I picked up a pint of really nice strawberries at the farmer's market yesterday, let's have those. And brew the coffee super strong, I didn't get much sleep either!!!
Oh, and yeah, I like the Dropkick Murphys, Bob, good selection.
I'd like to hear a little "Enter The Haggis" with my morning cup o'joe.
Meg? I'll lend you my irish whistle if you want to be a band geek like the rest of us. Hey, I love you, man!
slams back a shot of thick, crunchy coffee who...the...hell...made...this?!?!?!
OOPS, I thought putting the actual beans in the coffee would make it more efficient. Guess it's just a little too textured...
When I burp up a bean, yeah, too textured.
*stands up, throws half full beer into fire place, trips over table and begins singing at the top of his lungs in the center of the bar***
...Say hey Johnny Boy the battle call
united we stand, united we fall
together we are what we can't be alone
we canme to this country you made it our home
This man so humble This man so brave,
A legend to many, he fought to his grave
saved his family and friends
from the hardship and horror in a land of depression
he gave hope for tomorrow say johnny me boy this one's for you with
the strength of many and the courage of a few
to what do we owe this man who's fight was for the masses
he have his life
Friend to the locals who dabbled in crime
he'd five you a job and he'd give you his time
he wasn't a crook but he couldn't be cunned
John knew te difference between right and wrong
Say Johnny Boy you live no longer others forgotten
your memories stronger luts drink to the causes
in your family, your friends, the union your wife
And the boys on the docks needed John for sure
when they came to this country he opened the door
he said man I'll tell ya, they don't like our kind
though it starts with your fist it must end with your mind!
I love Irish music. Got to get back to work. Go read my comment on my blog about Nathan and console me. Please!!!!!!
*listening to the conversations from the floor*
picks RC up off the floor....again
How many beers is it going to take to get you steady on your feet? I'd like to see the Flipper Dance again, if you don't mind, of course.
IV, can I request a song? I'd like to hear "Ride My Monster", please? I figured you'd know the words to that one.
as in
"My monster's always with me,
He's my very special friend
I'm going to see my lassie Sue Magoo
And if she wants to, Sue Magoo can ride my monster too"?
We have a fireplace? Since when?
Leah, stop talkin' trash.
I know, I've lost all my previous couth.
Dials up a Blessing as follows: Jamaican Blue Mountain, Jameson's, dash of brown sugar, whipped cream.
Sips.
Sighs.
Wishes the band would hurry up and get started...
Every HAS to go to Sarah Name Generator.
I'm Shank Piston Palin.
Wesson Scalper Palin here, pleased to make your acquaintance, Shank!
And mix me up a blessing too, if you don't mind--sounds delicious.
And the band's here! It's us! Grab a pennywhistle, someone, and beat on the bodhran someone else, while IV sings and I play the fiddle...
Stoppage Lead Palin here. (Nope, I have no idea what it means either. Help?)
Leah....we are SO partying together. I can't believe you know the words to that song!
Plans for the weekend?
Hi QG--love it! Party party. But it'll have to be in the North Country of NY, as that's where I'm a' headed this weekend.
DANG....Spawn has a football game Friday night i can't miss. I have a sign ready to hang and everything with the hopes of embarrassing him.
I love my kids.
No really, i do.
You still all here? I'm starving. Made a salad and grabbed the Irish Spoons to serve, only to realize I'm screwed. Salad, the new finger food. But don't worry, I'm wearing my clogs and hope to entertain after I eat my last cucumber. Sit back and enjoy the fireworks. "RC, YOU STILL AWAKE BLOTTIE? Come join me honey." Great. Two Blotties and some beer, and Blottie Suze doesn't even drink beer. Blur your vision. That'll help.
I'm here... heating up the hard apple cider and prepping for a night of celtic music!
*gets up from the floor, sways to side, then falls on ass again*
Hard apple cider! I'm going apple picking this weekend, and I'll bring back some fresh cider donuts to go with it.
*tunes up fiddle and plays a few practice notes*
Anyone seen my glasses? The ones that go on my face, I mean?
*Tries a little jig*
*Trips over RC*
I'm up for it. Count me in.
Best wishes and bring on the beer,
Skeeter
Hey, is this Ceilidh still going? -ish?

i liked your blog
you are fantastic!!!
really nice blog
fabulous fantastic

*Kicks open the saloon door with her shit kickers, wearing nothing but her leather chaps and bra. Cracks her whip and the bumfuzzled customer leaning back in his chair by the door. Laughs as she realized it was I.V., and watches in delight as he tumbles to the floor. Walks up to the stage, grabs the mic and belts out a few special tunes.* Yeah, I still come here.
yeah rock it cece!!! rawhide!
You are one sexy, nasty, funny bitch!!! Here honey, let me get you a drink. What'll ya have? Oh, did you see Severus run like hell when you busted through the door? You scared the bejesus outta that poor boy. He even dropped his whip, so who's gonna bus this joint Boss? Go on, sing another one beautiful, but be careful with that whip cuz you might put and out or something. However, snap it at IV's ass once in a while. He's still over on the floor where you left him lovin' on Severus' whip. The man's incorrigible.
I finally got a chance to listen to Dropkick Murphy. They are Kick Ass. Very nice, very nice.
Wow,
Looks like I missed one hell of a Party!!! Sorry...I had to work, no rest for the wicked...
But I'm ready now, so watch out!!
*trips over I.V. on way to bar* Hey Bob, how about some "Cider"?
Oh, so good...now let's go see where that beautifull singing is coming from...
Great post Leah!! Enjoy your weekend upstate, pick lots of apples, his bobness is great with the "hard Cider"!!
xoxo,Gig
*Mumbles into the floorboards that she is not only half-Irish, but also half-German.*
*Anticipates October and wonders who's ready for that bash?*
*Mumbles into floorboards next to Megan. I'm not even Irish and don't really drink, but this wood is lovely! Can be heard saying to floor "I'm English and French on Mom's side, Polish, Czech and German on Dad's...honey. Cece, I forgot the word "eye," and I know Drop Kick Murphy is good, but you might want to get off Murphy's lap now and Gig, you might want to get off Cece's lap now. It's lookin' kinda pathetic!!! Megan, you need another drink sweetie? Oh right, who am I to comment, I'm talking to the floor."*
Hi Gig!!! If we don't count the time difference, you're almost here and I'm almost there. Let's serve ourselves tonight baby and listen to some beautiful vocals. Love you. XO
Hey Suze!!
I am still awake! You must be too...I think the Macy sofa is looking pretty comfy, how about you...ready go sit and watch the crowd? A cappucinno sounds really good right now. love ya,xo
*goes looking for our Bob, ah, there he is picking R.C. up off the floor...again...*
Gig... RC has picked me up so many times when I needed it that it's only right that I give her hand up too.
just bob,
that is why you are the best guy to have around, cuz you take such good care of all of us and everything here at the Onion.
Gig!!! HI HONEY!!! I'm over on the Macy's sofa. Where you at girl? Don't even tell me. I'll just sit here and wait as a proper Southern gal should. Oh right, I'm not from the South. Bob, you back baby? I'll have a cappucinno. Can I have some water too? I'm parched from looking at so much wood.
And Bob, thanks for taking such good care of RC. She and I were supposed to clog tonight. I'm under the impression we shouldn't plan to clog at the Irish Festival in the future. However, she should be good to go for the Polish Fest next week once she sobers up.
XO
I'm here to serve... drinks are on the way.
*sitting quietly on Macy sofa with Suze...sipping yummy cappacinno...*
Hey, Blottie!! Are we staying up all night? It's only 3 a.m. here and I am wide awake, guess I will sleep in later. Feels good to be here. I did put up a new post earlier, working on another one...ok think I will take a break and chill on the sofa.
*leans back and watches the twirling lights of the disco ball as it goes round and round*
xoxo
Hey Bob. I need you tonight. It's been rough. And Gig, you're not alone. I'm right here honey. You better sit up or the cappaccino's gonna spill all over your chest, then we'd have to hold a wet tee-shirt contest. And frankly, after Irish Fest I think we're all too exhausted to look at hard nipples. Right boys? *Boys noses plastered against window.* Gig. I think we have ourselves a festival. *Gazes up at disco ball recalling the beauty of the past year.*
57. Is this a freakin' record, or what???!!! *Clogs on back to bar.*
Ok vocal cords need a break. Oh hell, I am working with a borrowed monitor here, and it's not the 19 incher that I'm used to. So everything is a wee bit tiny. So if my spelling seems more horendous than normal, it's not that I'm stupid, it's just that I can't read what I write. Got to go to a 7 year old's birthday party now. Wish me luck!!1
*tiptoes in, peeks around, Sunday morning at 8 a.m. eastern time is too early for anything, tiptoes back out*
Sunday morning, 9:00am on the west coast means:
Kegs & Eggs.... are you ready for some football?
Yeah, I'm ready for some football. Whooo pig sooie. Boy do the Razorbacks suck this year. OH wait, you were talking NFL. Go Packers. Has anyone noticed that Rogers is F*&cking awsome. Sure Brett is still a hottie with a hot hand (and he proved it yesterday) But Rogers is really good too. The Pack hasn't missed a beat and I am very glad of that!!!!! I think we need to have a week long tailgate party next. I'll see what I can come up with.
